Within the New Bedford Public Schools, we believe students need to learn school behaviors the same way that they learn academic content. We use a framework of prevention, intervention and supports designed to ensure behavior doesn't interfere with student success. This framework, part of our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), helps schools to identify struggling students early so that they may receive assistance quickly. PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is a system for teaching school behaviors and recognizing when students demonstrate those behaviors. PBIS provides teaching to all, reteaching for some and additional teaching for students who struggle to meet behavioral expectations and/or exhibit behaviors that interfere with their learning at school. All schools in New Bedford employ components of PBIS. Visit PBIS.ORG for more information and support on supporting students behaviorally.
