Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." - Malcolm X
Classwork may be submitted up to 3 calendar days (not business days) after the due date with a 20% score reduction. Any work submitted after the 3 day extension results in a final score of a 0/F. Score breakdown is as follows:
4 (100% A+)
3 (90% A-)
2 (75% C)
1 (65% D)
0 (0%/F)
Student athletes are students first; please prioritize classwork despite having after school activities and get things done on time. Email me regarding questions about work for the day!
Please communicate with me if you need support or extra time; especially if you are sick or missing days of school for another reason. I want to support you, but you need to do advocate for yourself!
End of Unit Summative Essays and Reading Assessments: 75% of Grade Plan to successfully submit on time. Reading Assessments MUST be completed in class before the late policy extension for credit.
Unit Classwork/Exit Tickets/"Solos": 25% of Grade Classwork is completed during the school day, it can become homework if a student is absent or not completing work in class. Exit tickets are graded on correctness, all other work is based on completion.
What to avoid:
What does a normal class day look like?
Start off with announcements/reminders before you begin a quiet grounding activity (SSR or Quick Write) and write the agenda!
I introduce the lesson of the day as we engage in the content together via constant checking for understanding and group collaboration.
You begin your classwork, which is a stepping stone towards the Summative essay and reading assessments (and as you now know, those projects will be a major part of your grade). Assignments build on each other and lead you toward the unit project, so falling behind on units is not a step toward success.
Other policies
3 Hall Passes Per Quarter (anything after that requires a doctor's note or consequences will be implemented)
Cell Phones/AirPods not permitted (I suggest headphones with a headphone jack if you need music to focus so you can plug into your Chromebook)
Tardiness follows the school policy, which means you need to be in your seat with all materials BEFORE the bell rings. Please see school handbook for reference to consequences.
Students need a notebook and pencils for this class! Plug in headphones and mouse are optional.
