MCA is a team of professionals. Each teacher is not only qualified to teach their subjects but also full of unique life experiences outside of school. MCA Director
MCA English 2, 3 and 4 Teacher
Ms. Young has been a teacher at Newark Memorial since 2004. This is her 13th year teaching English in MCA and 6th year as the MCA director. Ms. Young is a former journalism adviser for The Cougar Chronicle, which she taught for 10 years at NM. She was also an AVID teacher and coordinator. Ms. Young has a degree in Mass Communication and English from UC Berkeley and SFSU and a masters in Instructional Design. She can speak, read and write fluently in Chinese. She used to work in a window display company prior to becoming a teacher. She also ran her father's factory that manufactures doctor's lab coats and scrubs for 5 years.
MCA Media 11, 12 Teacher
Ms. Lee is an MCA Media teacher who co-teaches MCA Media Art Juniors and Seniors with Ms. Hernandez. She has been in MCA and NMHS for four years. Ms. Lee is an instructor at MVROP, teaching Music Production and Sound design. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Interactive Audio from SAE Ex’pression. During her pursuit to receive her BA in Interactive Audio, Ms. Lee took on various media jobs such as enrollment in the Youtube Partner Program, freelance Sound Design and Music Production projects, and an internship for media house The Burgundy Suite. Her experiences helped her earn a Career Technical Education credential in Arts, Media and Entertainment
MCA Commercial Art and MCA Media 10 Teacher
Ms. Hernandez started her position as MCA Commercial Art and MCA Media Art 10, 11 and 12 teacher a year ago (2022-23). She also teaches Digital Photography/Imaging for MVROP at NM. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Animation and Visual Effects from SAE Ex’pression and a Career Technical Education credential in Arts, Media and Entertainment. Ms. Hernandez is not only a Class of 2012 NMHS Alumni but also a MCA Alumni. She was one of Ms. Young's former MCA English students.
MCA Chemistry Teacher
Ms. Silva is an MCA Chemistry teacher and has been working at Newark Memorial for 5 years now. Although she works as a teacher, but she was also an alumni of NMHS 2012. She has a BA in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics from UC Santa Cruz. She also got her Masters in Educational technology and Single Subject Teaching Credential Chemistry from Cal State East Bay. Ms. Silva likes to read and do General Arts and Crafts for fun. Ms. Silva has also been promoted to be the chair of the Science Department.
MCA World History and Government/Economics Teacher And MCA U.S. History
Mr. Crosby, who is also the Social Science department chair, is MCA's World History, Government and Economics teacher. He is not only a NMHS teacher but is another alumni of NM. Mr. Crosby has taught high school students for 29 years and three years of those in MCA. He has an AA degree in Social Science from Ohlone College and a BA degree in History from Cal State Hayward (a.k.a. Cal State East Bay). He coached swimming and water polo for over 25 years. Mr. Crosby loves to spend time with his family and likes to work on his house for fun.
