10th grade is a trial year where students are able to try it out for their sophomore year. Students can decide if they want to to continue into junior and senior year or opt out of MCA at the end of the sophomore year. They are required to take four MCA classes and are able to pick out two or three classes. Students will be taught basic Adobe software skills as well as hands-on art. MCA students are given the priority to add A-period.
As juniors, besides the required classes, students will be participating in various career pathway activities like mentorship with iCouldbe and attend field trips to colleges as well as AME industry related businesses. Students will also learn and study in-depth all types of Adobe software including premiere, photoshop, inDesign, and illustrator. Students can be industry certified in these program beginning this year through certification exams paid for by MCA.
Now that students are on their last year of high school, seniors will become an active member of Skills USA, a leadership and career skills program that could earn students prestige awards through region, state, national and even international competitions if desired. MCA students are also required to earn experiences through internships within the tri-city community. Currently, we have a working partnership with the City of Newark.
