Why We Teach: Joy, Justice and Care: A Book Study of Unearthing Joy by Dr. Gholdy Muhammed
March 2 - April 3
Discover how joy can transform your teaching in this reflective book study of Unearthing Joy by Dr. Gholdy Muhammad. Over five weeks, you'll explore how the Five Pursuits (identity, skills, intellect, criticality, and joy) can reframe your practice to center student voices, wellness, and justice. Together, we'll reflect on our own assumptions, examine systemic barriers, and celebrate the beauty and resilience of overlooked communities, especially Black and Brown students. Each week includes a practical Canva project, ranging from vision boards to infographics, that builds your digital design skills while producing meaningful artifacts you can use with students, families, or colleagues. By the end of the course, you'll leave with new strategies and creative tools meant to sustain joy as both self-care and purposeful change in your classroom.
