3. Satisfy the prescribed number of Core Faculty members for the Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology program pursuant to the provisions of CHED CMO for Marine Biology. Consider the following in the hiring of new additional faculty members:

a. Minimum of Master’s Degree holder.

b. With Specialization in any of the major areas of Marine Biology.

c. With relevant publication in the area of specialization.

d. With academe/industry experience.

3. The program is compliant to the PSG CMO no. 46, series of 2017, specifically on Section 14 on Faculty. The program has 7 full- time faculty in Marine Biology or in any of the identified field with relevant publications.

5. The Marine Biology students prior to their graduation conduct research thesis distinct to the program. The results of some studies were utilized by the alliance as a product of the faculty-student research whose funding came from DOST Caraga Region and continuous research collaboration with the University of the Philippines – Mindanao and revived collaboration with Mindanao State University – Naawan, Misamis Oriental. The Marine Biology program indeed serves its serviceability with the community by presenting scientifically sound data for policy formulation specifically to the alliance which comprises ten (10) municipalities in Surigao del Sur.

6. The administration may devise a plan to motivate all the faculty members of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology program to conduct researches that is within their specialization and the specialization they offer and submit their research outputs for patenting/copyrighting. By doing so, the research outputs of the faculty could be a source of income not only for the college but also for the whole College.

The provisions of the approved University Intellectual Property (IP) Policy to promote, preserve, encourage creativity and knowledge creation and innovation at the University through scientific investigation and research among the faculty members. Aside, the administration approved the research deloading of 3- 9 units depending on the academic rank of the faculty. Funding is available in GAA and STF grant, and encouraged them for external grant. The incentives and sharing revenues are favor most to the faculty innovator as reflected in the article 13 of the IP manual.

The accomplishments were emphasized on the reports and continual improvement was highlighted for the formulation of the next research agenda, however there is no new approved research agenda for this year onwards considering there is a change of administration of the University System.

10. Study was crafted on the awareness and acceptability of the “New” VMGO, with the passage of RA 11584 last July 2021, renaming SURIGAO DEL SUR STATE UNIVERSITY to NORTH EASTERN MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY. However, with the new Administration, and direction, the conduct of research was deferred after hearing talks on revising the new VISION MISSION of NEMSU.

Some of the items enumerated like “awareness and acceptability of the VMGO, Faculty and Staff Performance Job Satisfaction and other related topics such as the “Readiness of SDSSU for Institutional Sustainability Assessment” and the “Readiness of SDSSU for CHED Typology” were already published in refereed journal. However, some of the research studies were already submitted to the editor-in-chief of the specific journals.

The article on the employability of graduates was already submitted to the University Journal but still undergoing an evaluation. On the other hand, the performance and productivity of graduates are still ongoing research and obtained fewer responses as of the time being.

17. A process was developed by the IMs Committee for the issuance of Certificate of Utilization. Laboratory Manuals and Modules in the BSMB major subjects were developed by some faculty, reviewed by experts in the field, and edited/enhanced based on the comments.

18. The BS Marine Biology program has several field/laboratory subjects. With the global scenario on COVID-19, physical delivery of lecture and laboratory activities is hampered. With this, it is suggested that the University must device additional adjustment/s and measures to cope-up with the pandemic situation to maintain quality instruction.

18. Despite the restrictions during COVID-19 pandemic situation, the faculty strategized teaching approaches in courses with field/laboratory activities. In the case of the Integrated and Coastal Resource Management (ICRM) course, students were individually required to submit a vlog containing how to manage marine resources based on their own coastal areas. Students who were far away from coastal areas were allowed to adopt a video and state their own interpretation. Almost similar approaches were adopted by the core faculty of the BS Marine Biology program.

19. Adopt a Comprehensive Strategy to increase the number of enrollees and eventually the number of graduates of the BS Marine Biology program.

19. The BSMB program together with other program offered in NEMSU-Lianga Campus adopted a comprehensive strategy on how to increase its enrolment. The academic and student services units conducted the following:

• Enrolment campaign Visiting Secondary Schools in Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur and other neighboring provinces

• Posting of tarpaulin on enrolment information.

• Posting of enrolment information at social media.

• Announcement at local Radio Stations.

20. The BS Marine Biology program must formulate Extension agenda to be properly participated by the various stakeholders and to be approved by the higher authorities of the University. Likewise, the previous extension program/s of the BS Marine Biology program must be subjected for impact Assessment study.

f. Towards the end of its implementation, prepare a comprehensive impact assessment of the extension project for submission to AACCUP.

21. The university conducted needs assessments among the target clientele and ensured that the extension project proposals comply with its guidelines, policies, and standards. Once approved, the projects were implemented efficiently and effectively with the active participation of all stakeholders. Regular monitoring and evaluation should be conducted throughout the project's implementation to assess its progress and effectiveness, identify any challenges or issues, and enable the project team to promptly address them. By following this process, the university can ensure that its extension programs are relevant, effective, and impactful in meeting the needs of the target clients and achieving the university's overall mission and goals.

23. The University must forge more linkages through MOA for the BS Marine Biology program. The progress of such collaboration of the previous linkages needs to be evaluated periodically by conducting Impact study to determine its effectiveness and sustainability.

The two-levels of Quality Assurance bodies in the University: 1) Quality Assurance Office headed by a designated Director at the NEMSU Main Campus; and 2) the Lianga Campus Quality Assurance Unit supervised by a designated Unit Head and a QA Coordinator for each of the seven (7) programs. The bodies ensure for the University and its Campuses a system of improvement or compliance with relevant external standards or requirements.

The Unit has an ISO QA Unit Manual where the QOP of complete processing and implementation of 1) accreditation and 2) ISO Certification are achieved thru conduct of activities stipulated in the 1) QA Operational Plan for Accreditation and the ISO 9001:2015 PLAN.

There is also a Risk Register that stipulates that the system is pro-active with activities that responses to risks in achieving the QOP.

The evaluation of the university’s resources, processes, and mechanisms meet the standards of quality such that the consequent results or outcomes in relation to its vision, mission, goals and objectives are achieved.

The BSMB program has its own assigned targets to accomplish for a certain fiscal year in its four-fold functions such as instruction, research, extension, and production. The Planning Office monitors the targets and accomplishments per quarter and make a feedback to the program for each accomplishment and unattained PPAs to make a catch-up plan. In terms of budget, each program/college/unit has its Special Trust Fund guided with CMO 20, series of 2011 which governs the enhanced policies and guidelines governing the use of income, special trust fund and programs of receipts and expenditures of SUCS.

With the abovementioned planning processes implemented in the campus, the accomplishments of BSMB program have efficiently and effectively contributed to the promotion of quality culture and excellence in the university. The campus has won the BEST Campus Award for 2022, Best Campus Extension Award, BSMB faculty received awards in research fora and publish papers in refereed journals, the BSMB core faculty are all pursuing educational advancement, actively participating national and international organizations, BSMB students are competent in their fields as perceived in conducted graduate tracer and warriors in helping to mitigate the problems in climate change. Also, the BSMB program is AACCUP Level III re-accredited and with Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) issued by CHED.
