The Band Director Matthew Fletcher received his Bachelor’s in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Instrumental Conducting from Eastern Kentucky University. He served the Eastern Kentucky University School of Music as the Graduate Assistant for the band area. He organized and developed the Athletic Bands, Concert Band, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Matthew organized a wide array of EKU Band events such as: EKU Middle and High School Honor Band, and EKU Marching Colonel for a Day. Matthew studied conducting with Dr. Andrew Putnam. In addition to his conducting studies, he studied vocal technique, and pedagogy under Dr. Curtis Streetman.
During Matthew’s studies in pursuit of a Bachelor’s in Music Education, Matthew studied euphonium under Professor James Willett and trombone under Dr. Ken Haddix. During his undergraduate studies Matthew was an active performer in various ensemble groups. Performed with the Eastern Kentucky University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, the Musical production of “Urinetown”, Marching Band, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, and Trombone Ensemble.
Matthew’s teaching experience includes working with two high school band programs in the Glasgow Kentucky area: Barren County High School Marching Band for six years. With numerous performances at the Contest of Champions. Matthew has worked with the Glasgow Scottie Marching Band which the band has made numerous KMEA State Marching Band Championship performances. Matthew served as a counselor at the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp for two years. Matthew completed his first student placement at Madison Middle School under the direction and mentorship of Kerry Evans and the second placement at Kirksville Elementary School under the mentorship of Lori Wallace. His other teaching experience includes substitute teaching for the Madison County School District for the 2015-2016 school year.
He served as a counselor at Dreams With Wings a summer camp for children with physical and mental disabilities. This camp included work and observation of Music Therapy. During his undergraduate program Matthew also served as Fraternal Educations Officer for EKU’ s Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia chapter. Matthew also served as treasurer for EKU’ s NAFME chapter. His conducting experience includes the Madison Middle School 6th, 7th, 8th and Jazz band programs, Foster Music Camp chamber ensembles and the EKU Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
