Career success

Advanced Agriculture students learn the safety measures of working with power equipment through the construction of toolboxes. They must show proficiency in proper PPE usage, as well as measuring and cutting. Pictured to the left is 2022 8th Grader, Trentyn Baker.

Hands on learning

Agriculture courses provide hands-on-learning opportunities that prepare students for careers both in and outside of the agriculture field. This last school year was the first season our FFA Chapter had a greenhouse season, and ALL of this was done by the students. The growing, transplanting, building, and everything in-between. Student led success is invaluable. Pictured are some students who helped in the construction of the OKH Greenhouse. (L-R) Parker Jury, Owen Luckett, Tyler Lundy, Brayden Cheek, Austin Balog. The bottom picture is past 8th grader, Gracie Pike, transplanting coleus for sale preparation.

Practical experience

A large portion of what is taught in agriculture courses is taken outside the classroom walls and put into practice. Pictured to the left are past 8th grade students, Addy Hart, Maya Whitson, Danielle Gilkey, and Miley Parks, competing in the UK Field Day Floriculture CDE. These students had to create a boutonniere used in weddings and prom, and identify flowers of KY.

building community

Students enrolled in agriculture courses are exposed to a variety of industries that create our community. Pictured to the left are agriculture students visiting the YARDS classroom in Lexington, located at the bluegrass stockyards. Students witnessed a cattle sale, engaged with local beef producers, and learned the importance of the beef industry in KY.
