Assuring privacy among faculty and students engaged in online and face-to-face instructional activities helps promote open and robust conversations and mitigates concerns that comments made within the context of the class will be shared beyond the classroom. As such, recordings of instructional activities occurring in online or face-to-face classes may be used solely for internal class purposes by the faculty member and students registered for the course, and only during the period in which the course is offered. Students will be informed of such recordings by a statement in the syllabus for the course in which they will be recorded. Instructors who wish to make subsequent use of recordings in an online course that include student activity may do so only if all student activity is removed from the recording. Instructors have the discretion to record course sessions, except when recording is required to meet the needs of students granted an accommodation by the Office of Student Disability Services. Recordings in which students are personally identifiable will be managed in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Recordings may only be stored on University-owned password-protected sites. Any recordings that include student information such as name, voice,or image, may only be shared, distributed and/or published on the university’s approved learning management system(LMS). Recordings of such classroom instruction can only be accessible to Northeastern Illinois faculty, staff, and students. Capturing, copying, and/or sharing of recordings to others by faculty, staff, and students is prohibited. Students are not allowed to record class sessions without instructor permission.
Video and audio recordings of class lectures and activities may be a part of the classroom activity. These recordings are used for educational use/purposes only and made available to all enrolled students via the University's approved learning management system (LMS). For purposes where the recordings will be used in future class sessions/lectures, any type of identifying information will be adequately removed. These recordings are the intellectual property of the faculty and they may not be shared or reproduced without the explicit, written consent of the faculty member. Students must receive instructor permission to record class sessions. Further, students may not share these sessions with those not in the class, or upload them to any online environment other than a University owned, password-protected site.
