Why didn't I receive an invitation to apply?

Invitations to apply are sent to juniors and seniors with an unweighted GPA of 90+. If you believe your unweighted GPA is 90+, you can confirm your GPA with your counselor. GPAs with the multiplier are not considered for NHS membership.

How far back can I go on my application? What years am I able to include?

Please read your application very carefully. Faculty Council will only consider involvement in activities from the 2 previous school years. So, if you are a junior, you will include information from your freshman and sophomore years; if you are a senior, you will include information from your sophomore and junior years.

Is there a limit to the number of members in NHS?

No, there is no limit to the number of members. Any eligible applicant who provides evidence of the four NHS pillars within their application and meets the criteria established in the scoring rubric will be selected.

If I applied last year and was denied, should I apply this year?

Absolutely! Applicants often gain more experience over the year that can be included in their application. 

Does the applicant need to provide a teacher evaluation form or letter of recommendation?

No. NHS advisers will send the teacher evaluation form to the current faculty members. Every teacher at Reagan will have the opportunity to submit an evaluation form.

Is a signature required for non-campus based sponsors?

You MUST attach a screenshot/image of the email confirmation with the email address visible from the sponsor confirming your involvement, or a signed document on letterhead. A signature on the application is NOT a valid verification. Parents CANNOT sign for activities on the application. 

Can I include certificates from an activity to help validate and and support my application?

Yes, as long as the official certificate verifies that the applicant participated in the activity in the acceptable time frame. Please note that contact information of the supervisors from the event/activity must be included in the proper place on the application and signature should still be obtained.

Can a parent sign for a sponsor?

No, a parent cannot sign for their child's activities or involvement. The only place where a parent signature is acceptable is on page 5 of the application form.

If accepted, when do I need to earn community service hours?

All volunteer hours will be completed after the applicant is accepted into the organization and the member has paid their dues and been inducted.  Since the Induction Ceremony takes place in November, service hour opportunities for the spring will be made available in December.
