Orienteering is a competitive sport in which cadets must accumulate points by quickly locating "flags" throughout rough terrain with only a map and compass. Teams are made up of four cadets and are separated into male and female with a master and explorer category for each. Cadets must be physically fit and able to work well in teams even under stressful conditions such as when a team gets disorientated and lost.
During competitions, each team is given a map with 90 minutes to find various checkpoints around the area. Each checkpoint carries a different point value.Â
