“Nobody ever figures out what life is all about, and it doesn't matter. Explore the world. Nearly everything is really interesting if you go into it deeply enough.”
― Richard P. Feynman
Two weeks left! Our 8th grade math classes are both high school courses, which require semester exams. Ours, for both Algebra and Geometry, will be on Thursday, May 15. We're spending class time on reviewing the semester, and I'm encouraging students to go out on a high note with this one. It's 15% of their semester grade, so it can make a difference--what's up to them is whether that difference is positive or negative.
If your student has some low or missing grades, please have them take the initiative and visit with me about it. They are, after all, high school students in just a couple of weeks, as they have been in math all year. They've got an exciting 4 years right around the corner!

Tutoring: I have a regularly-scheduled tutorial time from 3:45 to 4:30 on Mondays and Thursdays. I also work with students by appointment--just email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and we'll find a time that works for your student!
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
Students have been assigned the Rollercoaster Physics project. In this project, students will explore the physics behind how roller coasters work by building and testing their own model roller coasters using materials like foam tubing, foil, or cardboard. They will learn key physics concepts such as potential and kinetic energy, gravity, friction, and acceleration.
Students will design a coaster that lets a marble complete the track safely, using loops, hills, and turns. By adjusting the height and shape of the track, they'll see how energy changes form and how physics affects motion. The goal is to make learning fun while understanding real-world science in action!
Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

Students are hard at work on their capstone project. Students are using all they learned in class this year to make a children's book. The book is an A to Z book about Early American history. Their book is due May 16th.
If you are doing any spring cleaning: I love doing hands-on, artsy project with the kids. If you have any magazines, newspapers, colored paper, stickers, paper tape, stencils, etc. that you are looking get rid of, I'd take them off your hands for you. No pressure, but I'd happily put them to use next year! Thank you!!

Hello to Our DATA Families!
Graphic Design & Illustration I: Students are finalizing their marketing campaign projects, which will culminate in the creation of a brochure and poster. Studying print media helps students develop design, communication, and critical thinking skills as they learn to craft effective visual messages. It also deepens their understanding of graphic design by exploring how design principles apply across both print and digital formats. Their Spring Final Exam will take place during the last week of school—more details to come next week.
Video Game Design: Students are wrapping up their research projects on video game design trends, focusing on current events, gamification, and its impact on learner engagement. They are making real-world connections to video game design both inside and outside the classroom.
