Algebra 1: The Algebra 1 STAAR EOC is over, and the end of the year is around the corner. Students spent the end of test week working to improve grades and prepare for the test on Unit 8, which we deferred in favor of preparing for STAAR. We'll wind down the year with an introduction to Geometry to send everyone off with a head start on next year.
Geometry: The Math 8 STAAR 2as made more interesting by the promise of a pizza party if all 20 students achieve a Mastery score on the test. Because it's a high school course without its own STAAR, Geometry has one last unit of study, on Probability. It's a slippery area, but very useful. As luck would have it my graduate minor is in this area, so there are some tricks still left up these sleeves.

Tutoring: I have a regularly-scheduled tutorial time from 3:45 to 4:30 on Mondays and Thursdays. I also work with students by appointment--just email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and we'll find a time that works for your student!
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
Our science research project is in full swing! Students have already selected a scientist to study and are now exploring their life, major discoveries, and the lasting impact of their work. Each student will also create a model representing a key invention, concept, or contribution made by their chosen scientist—combining research with creativity to bring science to life.
Students have received a rubric outlining expectations, and we’ll continue to have periodic check-ins in class that will count as daily grades. The completed project, including both the research and model, will be a major project grade. Once everything is finished, students will present their findings to the class. I can’t wait to see their hard work and curiosity shine!
Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

From this point forward, both of my classes are on the same track. Both classes have a capstone project where they will be showing off the skills they have acquired while in DATA. They will also be working on a portfolio which will count as their final exam.
Capstone projects will have several checkpoints following the design process until the due date. These checkpoints will be graded and will allow us to track progress.
Final Capstone projects are due May 14th.
The final exam portfolios are due May 16th.
