"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion."
- Robin Williams' character John Keating from the film Dead Poets' Society
We will continue our brief study of poetry as we begin this week and then move on into studying a play for a day (maybe two). Then we end the week with learning to evaluate short constructed responses - - what to do and what not to do when writing these types of responses.

The math STAAR tests are on April 22, about a month from now. Please strongly encourage your student not to fall behind here at the end--it's hard to catch up!
Algebra 1: Unit 7 (Writing and Graphing Quadratic Functions) is about to conclude with the unit test on Thursday, March 27. Unit 8 (Solving Quadratic Equations) will go fast, with three other STAAR tests and our own STAAR review happening over the next 3 weeks. It's really important for students to keep up and get clarification early if things get murky.
Geometry: Geometry will finish Unit 8 (Circles) with a test on Thursday, March 27. The final 2 units of the course cover Surface Area and Volume, and then Probability. Students have access to a practice Grade 8 STAAR test in DeltaMath--encourage yours to work through it so we can target the specific areas of concern for them. A bit later on I'll put up another release test for them to try. (Thanks to Mr. Aguilar for putting these into DeltaMath, and being willing to share!).
-Dr. Koepp
Tutoring: I have a regularly-scheduled tutorial time from 3:45 to 4:30 on Mondays and Thursdays. I also work with students by appointment--just email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and we'll find a time that works for your student!
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
We will continue our STAAR Review. The STAAR Science Review will focus on key concepts and skills necessary for success on the STAAR test. Students will review the four major categories covered on the exam, including matter and energy, force and motion, Earth and space, and organisms and environments. Activities will include targeted instruction, hands-on activities, and practice questions to reinforce understanding.
We will spend each day reviewing material from 6th-8th grade. We will cover a different concept each day.
We have identified specific areas of need for each student. The TEKS that are most tested and that students struggled with are being retaught these next few days leading up to the STAAR test. The goal is to strengthen scientific knowledge, improve critical thinking, and build confidence in test-taking strategies.
Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.
