"In the Spring, I have encountered 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours."

I hope everyone comes out of spring break vacation relaxed and ready to tackle the remaining weeks of the schools year - only ten weeks left to the end of the year! 😲
The return from spring break finds us diving into an district assessment over the argumentative unit - - students will have a couple of class periods to complete this assessment. Students needing extra time to work on this assessment may come in during regular tutoring hours to complete it. Immediately after we will begin a review and brief study of poetry.

“Math is like going to the gym for your brain. It sharpens your mind.”
— Danica McKellar
I hope everyone had/has a safe and relaxing Spring Break. It's a great recharge as we hit the final push to finish the year strong and get ready for STAAR.
Algebra 1: Right before Spring Break the Algebra classes worked on the skill of factoring quadratic functions. We even invented a new, streamlined approach ("Azzy's Method") that has made it more accessible process to master. This will be key as we finish out the course with our study of quadratics, their graphs, and quadratic equations.
Geometry: Geometry finished the 3rd grade cycle deeply engaged in circles. To address student anxiety over re-taking the 8th grade STAAR I made a released test available to them in DeltaMath, as a means of self-assessment. We'll address any topics that seem shaky, but I don't anticipated us taking much time from Geometry for deep review of these pre-Algebra 1 topics. This group of students is very capable, and very well-prepared.

Tutoring: I have a regularly-scheduled tutorial time from 3:45 to 4:30 on Mondays (new) and Thursdays. I also work with students by appointment--just email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and we'll find a time that works for your student!
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
I hope everyone enjoys their spring break and is ready to work hard upon their return!
As we return from Spring Break we will continue our STAAR Review. The STAAR Science Review will focus on key concepts and skills necessary for success on the STAAR test. Students will review the four major categories covered on the exam, including matter and energy, force and motion, Earth and space, and organisms and environments. Activities will include targeted instruction, hands-on activities, and practice questions to reinforce understanding.
We will spend each day reviewing material from 6th-8th grade. We will cover a different concept each day.
We have identified specific areas of need for each student. The TEKS that are most tested and that students struggled with are being retaught these next few days leading up to the STAAR test. The goal is to strengthen scientific knowledge, improve critical thinking, and build confidence in test-taking strategies.
Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

Architecture students are going to be finishing the year doing two major projects. One will be a unit on tiny homes. This is a great project to really drive home the importance of scale in design. The final project of the year is a capstone project where students are able to research and plan a project of their choosing from scratch.
Digital media students have a few more units to cover before the end of the year. Currently, they are working on balance and CSS. When we get back from break, we will be running hard with CSS. It is the most difficult unit in the course. Then, they will start their capstone projects to show off all their design skills.
