"Is February over yet?"
- Mrs. Burciaga
We're full swing with the writing process ... with sources for evidence (hopefully) gathered, students will generate an outline - this will help students visualize the structure of their argumentative essay. We'll round out the week practicing with grammar and transitions between paragraphs, which should be helpful in the next step of the writing process ... writing a rough draft.

“We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.”
- Paul Drucker
Algebra 1: Having wrapped up all but the practice for skill, we've moved from basic exponent properties to a broad coverage of polynomials. The unit test will around February 25-26. Students who wanted or needed a retest over Unit 5 had completed that, with gradebook updates over the February 15-16 weekend.
Geometry: Unit 7 on polygons is nearing the end, with a (tentative as of Valentine's Day) unit test date of February 20. Next up we'll have circles for 3-4 weeks, and then move in to some 3-D geometry. The recent STAAR Interim predicts nearly all students to score Mastery level on the upcoming 8th grade STAAR (shocker!), with everyone at least meeting grade level. I don't anticipate more than a cursory review for STAAR. The final topic of the year will be Probability--an odd placement in this class, but a fun thing to learn about!
-Dr. Koepp
Tutoring: I have a regularly-scheduled tutorial time from 3:45 to 4:30 on Thursdays. I also work with students by appointment--just email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and we'll find a time that works for your student!
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
Last week students spent some time modeling seasons and describing the difference in length of day and night during the different seasons. They differentiated between solstice and equinox and described the angle of sunlight and length of day during each of these.
We will focus on Tides this week and students will be able to describe the Sun, Moon, and Earth position when we experience Spring Tides and Neap tides.
We will then move into Stars and the HR diagram. Students will learn how to classify stars on the HR diagram according to temperature and luminosity.
Tutoring is offered on Tuesdays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

Getting back on the horse! This week student will finally take their Unit 6 test on Tuesday the 18th.
After doing some test corrections, we'll continue on to Unit 7: Reform Movements. Student get to learn about the Second Great Awakening, temperance, the women’s suffrage movement, prison/asylum reform, the emergence of public education, labor reform, and abolition.

Architecture students have combined rooms, made the models look super spiffy with textures, and have added roofs to their home models. Next week we begin our unit on landscape architecture. This will give them the tools they need to put a nice landscape around thier model home.
FebrUnity projects are DUE on 2/21! Again, this is a test grade. Students have been given time in class to put on the finishing touches. Students also just completed an introduction to HTML. They now know how to code html. Next week, CSS!!
