"Success is not an accident. Success is actually a choice."

After wrapping up our learning of rhetorical devices, it's time to spend a day or two practicing with these devices through identification and application. Immediately following this practice, we'll review a couple of literary devices as well as author's language - mood, tone, and voice. We should round out the week assessing all of this glorious learning!

Week 4 is in the books! Be sure to look at your student's 3-week progress grades, and encourage them to work with their teachers on any subjects of concern.
Algebra 1: Friday we began our Unit 6, on Polynomials, after spending some time the previous two days reviewing for the Unit 5 test. Polynomials will occupy about 3 weeks in February. The Unit 5 test is Monday, February 3, due to some spontaneous changes in schedule that happened with the STAAR Interim Reading test. I'm confident students will do well on it, especially if they have revisited the material through practicing extra problems and reviewing notes the evening before.
Geometry: After some review time, Geometry students took their Unit 6 test on Friday. The class did very well, and is ready to move on to Polygons. We've built a solid foundation on our study of triangles, so that one powerful approach will be to decompose more complex shapes into triangles. We'll be on this topic for most of February.
-Dr. Koepp
Tutoring: I have a regularly-scheduled tutorial time from 3:45 to 4:30 on Thursdays. I also work with students by appointment--just email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and we'll find a time that works for your student!
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
We have wrapped up our Physics unit and will be moving on to our Space Cycles Unit.
We will begin with reviewing the difference between rotation and revolution and then proceed into seasons. Students will review the concept of rotation causing day and night and that revolution of the Earth around the Sun along with Earth's tilt contributes to Seasons.
Students will spend some time modeling seasons and describing the difference in length of day and night during the different seasons. They will differentiate between solstice and equinox and describe the angle of sunlight and length of day during each of these.
We will continue with our space unit discussing stars and the HR Diagram. Students will learn how to classify and compare stars by temperature and brightness.
Tutoring is offered on Mondays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

Architecture students have combined rooms ensuring there are no double walls or strange little hallways to nowhere. It sounds a whole lot easier than it is. Next week we begin designing roofs.
February we will be concentrating on harmony and variety. I called it Februiety last year but I'm hoping we can come up with a better name this year. Lots of fun to come
