"The beginning is always today." - Mary Shelley
The new semester will begin fast and furious!
While we kick off a new unit - argumentative - we also start preparing students for high school. We will discuss a timeline of events that begins this month, including filling out course cards and going on a high school tour.
Our argumentative unit will begin with a pep talk about how to be someone people will want to listen to (thank you, TED Talks!), as well as notetaking over effective communication.

Tutoring
Suspended until the week of January 13th.

Boy, it felt good to be back! The first part of the final week of the semester focused on preparing for semester finals on Wednesday, and Thursday was given over to making sure everyone had been able to finish their test and then focus on improving any low grades for the final 9 week cycle.
Algebra 1: Students overall did well on their semester exam, and are primed to start in next term on Exponential Functions, which model diverse phenomena from population growth to the decaying sound of a bell. I look forward to some fun activities to accompany this unit!
Geometry: This very strong group of students also did well on their semester test. We'll start in next term with right triangles and trigonometry, which is foundational in all aspects of engineering design.
At this point it looks like we should have more "normal" next semester. The medical challenges aren't all over, but should not involve hospital stays.
Have a safe and restful break!
-Dr. Koepp
Tutoring: You can email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and I'll work to arrange tutoring support with me or another teacher, until I'm able to be back for regular times.
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
Welcome back from the break! I hope everyone enjoyed quality time with family and friends!
Students will continue our unit on force and motion. We will wrap up Newton's 3 laws of motion this week and prepare for our DEUA, district unit assessment.
Newton's First Law explains how objects remain at rest or in motion unless acted upon by an external force, highlighting the concept of inertia.
Newton's Second Law shows how force, mass, and acceleration are related, teaching how stronger forces or lighter objects result in faster movement.
Lastly, Newton's Third Law demonstrates that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, helping students understand interactions like rocket launches or swimming strokes.
Tutoring is offered on Mondays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.
