"Study as if you no nothing. Work as if you can solve anything." - James Clear
To say that I'm proud of our 8th graders is an understatement. They've pushed through every challenge and every change that I've put in front of them. After this week, they have only ONE semester left of middle school! 😮
We start this week with a couple of assessments: One will be a district assessment over short-answer writing skills, and the other will be an exam over The Outsiders, chapters 7-12.
The remainder of the week will be spent continuing or catching up on assessments and making sure ALL work is turned by Thursday, 12/19.

I'm writing this in 8th period on Thursday, December 12, my first full day back since last Tuesday, December 3. My plan is to be in class every day December 16-20. I am very grateful to Mrs. Lund for not just covering my classes, but for leading them forward in their understanding.
Algebra 1: Students are engaging in review activities for the upcoming Semester Final Exam, which I've scheduled for Wednesday, December 18. We're basically allotting a day for each of the 4 units they covered. They'll receive more detailed information on the content and format of the final on Monday, December 16.
Geometry: Geometry students started their Unit 5 test on Thursday, December 12; but due to a glitch with the district not assigning it to 30% of the class, we only had about half of one class period on it. We'll finish it on Monday December 16 in class, do some short guided review for the final, and have the Semester Final Exam on Wednesday, December 18.
If you've looked at Skyward you know I'm behind on grading and posting grades. In catching up I will emphasize fairness to the students, with an eye toward not penalizing them for things that were out of their (and my) control. Final grades will be available early in the week we return from Winter Break.
I hope you all have a safe and restful holiday!

Tutoring: You can email me at wkoepp@neisd.net and I'll work to arrange tutoring support with me or another teacher, until I'm able to be back for regular times.
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
This week students will continue creating an animation project to explain and demonstrate Newton's three laws of motion. Each law will be described clearly in the video and shown through examples. Students are to use two examples to demonstrate each law. The animations are to increase students understanding of t the concepts of inertia, force and acceleration, and action-reaction.
Students will complete their projects and present during the week. They will also take their district unit of assessment exam which will cover forces, speed, motion graphs, and Newton's laws.
Tutoring is offered on Mondays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.

Half of the year done already??? With only a week left before break, it makes no sense to start a new unit. This week we'll be using our time to watch "Hamilton: the Musical" in order to see the previous four units we have studied through a new lens. Despite some abrasive language, "Hamilton" does a great job presenting major themes that we have been talking about in class in a relevant way to the kids. I'm looking forward to watching and dissecting the show and its themes with your child!
