"You know, the only thing that keeps Darry from bein' a Soc is us."
- Two-Bit Matthews
When we left Ponyboy and his greaser gang in The Outsiders, we witnessed the fire at the church that injured Ponyboy, Dally and Johnny ... some worse than others. Chapter 6 ended with Ponyboy and Darry reaching an emotional understanding at the hospital.
The week before going on break we did not get to take an exam over the first half of the novel, so the exam will take place the week upon our return from Thanksgiving break - the exact day is TBD.
We will continue reading chapter 7 immediately upon our return, and with MAP testing taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, we'll pick back up with reading chapter 8 later in the week.
Lots going on, but we got this! Always!!

"I believe only in the mathematics."
- Claudio Ranieri, Professional soccer coach (Italian Serie A club Roma) and former professional player
Among the things I imagine DATA math students are thankful for is the conclusion of Unit 4. I hope you all have (or had) a safe and restful Thanksgiving!
Algebra 1: For Algebra there's just a few loose ends to tie up, and then preparation for the district semester final. I'd like to have a 1-3 day project as part of that, if time and circumstance permit. I'll be offering opportunities to repair low test grades as part of the final exam preparation, since that can double as review.
Geometry: In Geometry we're doing a quick Unit 5, on Similarity. This will include transformations of figures (rotations, translation, reflections, and dilations), all of which should resonate with students who are doing work in architecture and design. After that, we'll have a short time to prepare for the district final exam. I'm confident they'll do well on that, as they've done all semester!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Tutoring available before school by appointment on Wednesday and Thursday; and after school on Thursdays 3:45-4:30. wkoepp@neisd.net
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
We will continue our Force and Motion unit. In this unit, students will explore the concepts of force and motion, learning how forces affect the movement of objects. We will investigate how forces like gravity and friction act on objects, causing them to start, stop, or change direction. Through experiments and activities, students will learn that force is a push or pull that can create motion and change an object’s speed, velocity, and acceleration.
We will look at Newton's second law of motion and how an objects acceleration depends on the mass of the object as well as the Force applied. We will practice calculating force, mass, and acceleration.
Students will also learn how to interpret motion graphs and how to calculate speed on a graph.
Tutoring is offered on Mondays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

Hello to Our DATA Families!
I am excited to be working with your students this year. We will be exploring graphic design elements and principles, photography, print media and design, video game principles, coding, and video game design and production in our classes this year.
Graphic Design & Illustration I: Students are exploring the fundamentals of photography by learning about photo composition techniques, understanding the principles of lighting, and applying these skills to create visually compelling images.
Video Game Design: Students will explore the concept of cloning in programming by creating and managing prototype sprites and their clones, demonstrating the use of sprite and global variables, passing information between master and clone sprites, and efficiently deleting clones when they are no longer needed. This will set them up for the final project in SNAP!, their Space Invaders game.
About Me: My name is Elizabeth Fuentes Malin. I am a technology applications teacher and have been teaching for sixteen years. I am married with one child who is now at DATA with us! I attended OLLU, UIW, Lamar University, and now UNT. I hold degrees in English, Communication Arts, Administration, Educational Technology Leadership, and now am working on my doctorates in Learning Technologies and Machine Learning.

Architecture students have planned and designed all their sleeping areas. When we come back from break, they will move into living areas. We will also begin preparing for the semester exam which will be on 12/18.
Digital Media students have covered repetition, typography and symmetry. December is the month we dive into emphasis. It is another short month but there are lots of opportunities for great projects. We will also begin preparing for the semester exam which will be on 12/18.
