"... don't you kids get to pickin' up my bad habits."

The journey of Ponyboy and the greaser gang continues this week in The Outsiders.
We will start the week with a quiz over chapters 1, 2 and 3 - all students were assigned SGQs (Study Guide Questions) late last week which should be good prep for the quiz. SGQs are due Monday, 11/18.
We'll doing our best to plow through chapters 4, 5 and 6 this week, continuing with Thought Log annotations in the process and getting an exam over the first half of the book by the end of the week.

"You know, I'm not terribly fast at my times tables, because that's not what I think mathematics is about."
- Marcus du Sautoy
This week has had a number of alterations in the schedule, so our focus for most students has been catching up on missing and late work in preparation for their Unit 4 tests. Because of the medical issue I mentioned last week, I'll be out for a number of days right after Thanksgiving break, starting December 4, and maybe the entire following week. Most of those days will be covered by Mrs. Lund, the most recent DATA 8th grade math teacher, for which I am very grateful.
Algebra 1: We'll wrap up Unit 4 with the district unit test on Thursday, and then move our focus to preparing for the district semester final over the whole course so far.
Geometry: Geometry will end Unit 4 on Tuesday with the district unit test, and begin our final unit (Unit 5, on Similarity) before the break. After the break we'll finish Unit 5, and then work to prepare for the semester final.

Tutoring available before school by appointment on Wednesday and Thursday; and after school on Thursdays 3:45-4:30. wkoepp@neisd.net
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
This week we will continue our Force and Motion unit. In this unit students will explore the concepts of force and motion, learning how forces affect the movement of objects. We will investigate how forces like gravity and friction act on objects, causing them to start, stop, or change direction. Through experiments and activities, students will learn that force is a push or pull that can create motion and change an object’s speed, velocity, and acceleration.
We will look at Newton's second law of motion and how an objects acceleration depends on the mass of the object as well as the Force applied. We will practice calculating force, mass, and acceleration.
Students will also learn how to interpret and analyze data about an object's movement over time interpreting and creating motion graphs.
Tutoring is offered on Mondays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time, if needed.

Our Unit 3 Test will be on Monday, November 18th. (Yes, the date was changed, again; we had a Magnet Fair that threw off the 15th's schedule...I'm so sorry.)
If nothing else changes the schedule, we will test Monday, test correct Tuesday, and get rocking and rolling on Unit 4. Unit 4 covers the actions and events of the first five Presidents, and Justice John Marshall.

Hello to Our DATA Families!
I am excited to be working with your students this year. We will be exploring graphic design elements and principles, photography, print media and design, video game principles, coding, and video game design and production in our classes this year.
Graphic Design & Illustration I: Students are continuing their printing unit. By focusing on readability and aesthetic appeal, students learn to apply visual hierarchy (arranging elements by importance) and alignment principles (organizing elements for a balanced look) to make their designs more effective and engaging for the viewer.
Video Game Design: To finalize their Super-Mario platform games, students will integrate conditional statements to create interactive elements, such as enemies and collectibles, enhancing gameplay dynamics in their platform game.
About Me: My name is Elizabeth Fuentes Malin. I am a technology applications teacher and have been teaching for sixteen years. I am married with one child who is now at DATA with us! I attended OLLU, UIW, Lamar University, and now UNT. I hold degrees in English, Communication Arts, Administration, Educational Technology Leadership, and now am working on my doctorates in Learning Technologies and Machine Learning.
