"When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home."
- Ponyboy Curtis
My absolute FAVORITE time of the school year has finally arrived - the reading of the novel The Outsiders is upon us! We start the week by previewing the novel with discussions about stereotypes, 1960s culture in America, and talking through the slang associated with the novel. The week ends with reading the first chapter.
While students are not obligated to buy a copy of the novel, please note that I will not loan out copies to students. For the purpose of reading ahead or completing Study Guide Questions outside of the class time, students should arrange to come in during tutoring times.
-Mrs. Burciaga

"I can only play the sport for so long, I have mathematics for the rest of my life."
-Dr. John Urschel, former NFL player
We're in the home stretch! Both Algebra and Geometry finished Unit 3. Progress grades indicate that some students need to put in a bit more focus. I'll be working with them over the next few weeks both in class and out of class to help them achieve that!
Algebra 1: Unit 4, on Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities, is underway. We'll spend the rest of the semester in this area, and then prepare for the semester final.
Geometry: Unit 4 on Triangle Congruence has started. This one will be short, and we'll get in one additional unit on Similarity (where we look at scaling) before the semester exam.
-Dr. Koepp
Tutoring available before school by appointment on Wednesday and Thursday; and after school on Thursdays 3:45-4:30. wkoepp@neisd.net
EXPERIMENT. FAIL. LEARN. REPEAT.
Students will begin this week with a unit test over matter and energy. The test will cover properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Students will accurately count the number of each type of atom in a given formula, they will use both subscripts and coefficients to help them count atoms. They will be able to explain the law of conservation of mass and determine whether chemical equations are balanced or unbalanced.
We will then move on to our Force and Motion unit. Students will calculate acceleration of an object and analyze how the acceleration of an object is dependent upon the net force acting on the object and the mass of the object using .Newton's Second Law of Motion
Tutoring is offered on Mondays; students can attend from 3:45-4:15.
Students are also welcomed to set up an appointment for a different time.
If you have any questions, you may email me at egonza10@neisd.net.

This week we will be starting our big government project: Hexagonal Thinking. Student will be connecting ideas, people, and events from this unit in logical patterns and explaining their thinking behind the connections. Students received their second round of vocab homework last week, which they will be able to use on their next vocab quiz on November 8th.
Further into the future is our Unit 3 Test will be on Wednesday, November 15th. (Yes, the date was changed; the Veteran's Day assembly threw off the 13th's schedule)

Hello to Our DATA Families!
I am excited to be working with your students this year. We will be exploring graphic design elements and principles, photography, print media and design, video game principles, coding, and video game design and production in our classes this year.
Graphic Design & Illustration I: Students have completed their pieces for the Red Ribbon Week Mental Health Campaign and are now putting the final touches on their literary magazine. Their designs will be printed, allowing them to experience the transition from digital to print. Working in Publisher, students are learning essential skills in layout, sizing, and printing through hands-on application.
Video Game Design: Students will apply loops, variables, and Boolean expressions to build a Super Mario Bros.-style platform game, practicing effective debugging techniques to resolve scripting issues as they develop their game.
About Me: My name is Elizabeth Fuentes Malin. I am a technology applications teacher and have been teaching for sixteen years. I am married with one child who is now at DATA with us! I attended OLLU, UIW, Lamar University, and now UNT. I hold degrees in English, Communication Arts, Administration, Educational Technology Leadership, and now am working on my doctorates in Learning Technologies and Machine Learning.
My email is emalin@neisd.net
Tutoring is Friday morning or by appointment only
Architecture students have completed the unit on interior design. We will now move into basic home designs and the three areas of a home.
Digital Media students are in November November November. That's right, it is the time of year where we do an intense study of repetition in design.
