This week students will be starting their PBL on the Holocaust. We will tie in information from Texas History as followed: In December 1823, Stephen F. Austin authorized the formation of the a militia detachment, a precursor to the Texas Rangers. He ordered the commander to make war on the Karankawas. Increased attacks led to the Dressing Point Massacre in 1826 where colonist shot Karankawa men, women, and children as they attempted to flee to safety. This act constitutes the 8th stage of genocide: persecution.
