This week, we will launch into Grammar Keepers in earnest and taking a district unit test on story elements (as applied to a particular passage).
Coming in a few weeks: the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure!
If your student has 0/Missing for any assignments, it doesn't have to be permanent. They can still get them done for late credit for a few more days.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
Monday we start a very important unit over functions and slope. Students will explore what is a function when given ordered pairs, graphs, and tables. They will then determine what type of slope is given in a graph and what the slope of a line is.
Honors
This week we will complete the unit by exploring how to divide decimals, multiplying and dividing fractions. Students will determine the process and skills to complete these types of problem.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home.
Your student is more then welcome to complete it if they need more practice though.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.
HAM: Writing Equations and Inequalities HW
Honors: Multiplying Decimals HW

Hello!
We begin our Unit on Energy, with a new topic comes new learning opportunities! We are starting with gravitational, potential, kinetic, and elastic energy.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 10/11/2024
This week we will be focusing on the theme of Human Environment Interaction. We will start with examining how people change their behavior to adapt to the environment around them.
I will also be offering a retest (if needed) over the 50 states on Wednesday the 9th! Please have your student share the Seterra link with you!
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Chicken Tenders GROUP C Meets this Week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Week 9:
Here we are! The last week of the first grading cycle. It feels like we just started, but here we go. Welcome to October and Fall weather! We are 1/4 through the school year.
We will have an assessment on everything up to now this week. Everything from Digital Citizenship, Online Safety, Cyberbullying, and Computer Basics. Make sure to go over your Tech Apps Notes as well as checking your Google Classroom for other resources.
When we return to begin our next 9 week grading cycle on October 15, we will dive into Google Suite. Many of you have a general understanding of the apps that Google offers, but you might surprise yourself at some other things that it lends itself to our educational advantage.
Reminder:
We have early release on Friday, October 11 at 1:25 p.m. and there is a student holiday on Monday, October 14.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
I hope you all have an amazing week and let's end the first cycle on a positive note! Go Eagles!!

This week we'll be working with Adobe Premiere, starting with a new project folder containing all of the collected, edited images as well as the titles they created in Photoshop. They will import their assets as an entire folder to help them stay organized in the complex Premiere workspace. Students will bring in the Photoshop file with their titles as individual layers to provide them the option of later animating their text and backgrounds separately, but each of them also has a bitmap version of each title that will serve as a placeholder in the video sequence for the time being. They will build their Master sequence from their assets and carefully scale down and position each image so that the entire 1920 x 1080 video frame is still covered. A video track with a red "Warning Color" placed underneath their timeline will help them know they have done this successfully.
