This week, we will be taking a quiz on story elements/plot analysis. We will be reading and analyzing a story called 'Eleven' by local author Sandra Cisneros. We will also be learning through song and study how to use the apostrophe correctly and launching an ongoing unit called Grammar Keepers.
Coming in a few weeks: the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure!
If your student has 0/Missing for any assignments, it doesn't have to be permanent. They can still get them done for late credit for a few more weeks.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
ALL Missing/Late Work/Correction Work is DUE Oct.4th. I will no longer take any missing work, late work, or correction work past this date.
Anything assigned After September 30th, will be graded and placed in the next grading period.
HAM
Monday we will explore how to solve inequalities with variables on both sides of the inequality sign. Tuesday will be a work day to allow students to complete their work from Monday. Wednesday and Thursday we will work on Writing Inequalities from Word Problems. Friday students will Complete the last lesson of the unit by exploring System of Equations.
Honors
Monday and Tuesday students will learn how to convert rational numbers into equivalent forms so they can compare and order them with or without a number line. We will then explore how to multiply and divide decimals.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home.
Your student is more then welcome to complete it if they need more practice though.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.
HAM: Model and Solve Equations HW
Honors: Understanding Percents HW

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
Next week we have our first End of unit exam, over the topics of ecology, ecosystems and the environment, as well as cell theory. The students have the class slides, as well as vocabulary activities in their google classroom to study with.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 10/04/2024
This week we will be focusing on the Five Themes of Geography and how there are woven into what we will be studying the rest of the year. We will have a mini-assessment over the 5 Themes on Thursday the 3rd. We will also be testing out over the 50 states on Friday the 4th! Please have your student share the Seterra link with you!
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Chicken Tenders GROUP A Meets this Week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Here we go with Week 8:
As we begin the last two weeks of the first grading cycle, we will continue work on our typing skills for accuracy and seeing how many words-per-minute (wpm) we are reaching. We'll continue our timed typing assessments as well.
Our coursework will end with the computer basics unit with a working lab as part of your 9 week assessment. We'll look at the Google Suite apps and how we use them in class and in our everyday lives.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
It's really feeling like Fall in Eagle country! Let's all have an amazing week! See ya!

The overarching "master" project that we thread throughout the entire year is the Digital Portfolio, a website students create from scratch using Google Sites. Each Multimedia unit has its own page, designed to show off their products as well as inform their viewers, in writing, of the process they used to create them. Students should have a good handle on using Photoshop to make text graphics by now, so they'll make their own custom headers for each page showing off gradient backgrounds and layer styles that make each one its own work of art.
As of now their My Favorite Things page will include the four Title graphics they made for their video and a slideshow of the images they collected to animate in Adobe Premiere. If students improved any of the pictures using adjustment layers in Photoshop, they will also have some Before/After image pairs to demonstrate those changes and talk about how they did it. Once their video is complete it will be added as well!
