This week, we will be taking a deep dive into story elements. We will be reading two short stories and a comic book. Coming in a few weeks: the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure!
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
Monday we will explore how to solve inequalities with variables on both sides of the inequality sign. Tuesday will be a work day to allow students to complete their work from Monday. Wednesday and Thursday we will work on Writing Inequalities from Word Problems. Friday students will Complete the last lesson of the unit by exploring System of Equations.
Honors
This week we will start Unit 2 by reviewing how to simplify fractions. Students will then spend the rest of the week converting fractions, decimals, and percents into equivalent forms.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home.
Your student is more then welcome to complete it if they need more practice though.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.
HAM: Solve equations with Variables on Both Sides HW
Honors: Financial Literacy HW

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We are continuing to deepen our understanding of Ecology and the organization of environments. Last week we discussed ecosystems and the different parts of environments, as well as concepts like competition. This week we will go over big-picture topics like biomes and
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 9/27/2024

Chicken Tenders GROUP A Meets this Week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.

Week 7: Here we are at the last 3 weeks of the first grading period. We will continue with Typing.com and work on our accuracy and seeing how many words-per-minute (wpm) we are reaching. We'll continue timed typing assessments as we move forward
We'll finish up computer basics and have a quiz at some point. Our coursework will move in to a look at our Google Apps and how we use them in class and in our everyday lives.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
Everyone have an amazing week!

Students will export the Title slides they will use to introduce each part of their video. They will make a final selection of images from the ones they collected from the internet. Once those 13 items (4 Titles + 9 images corresponding with their outline), are ready they will copy them to a subfolder called "My Favorite Assets" they will take with them to the next project folder. Once they have done that they will have an opportunity to work on improving images that may have a less than optimal appearance. These non-destructive adjustment layers allow them to return to their original file and easily tweak the changes they made if needed. This includes deepening the blacks and brightening the lighter areas in a way that makes their color and detail pop. These not only look better in their video but make an excellent "Before and After" segment of their digital portfolio.
