This week, we will focus on figurative language and capitalization. We will be doing some activities related to Hatchet, our summer reading novel.
I have extended the deadline for the notebook covers to Tuesday, September 3rd.
Things that should already be finished and in:
ELAR Survey (on Google Classroom)
Root Word Monster (done in class, but the instructions can be found on GC).pax
First two journal reflections (done in the notebooks in class, but the instructions can be found on GC).
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-50 of these minutes will happen in class, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30+ minute chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
Students will have a MAP test Wednesday (Math) and Thursday (Science). This greatly impacts what we can do in class. The plan is to allow students to review for their end of unit exam. Friday, students will take their Unit 1 exam.
Honors
Students will have a MAP test Wednesday (Math) and Thursday (Science). This greatly impacts what we can do in class. The plan is to have a lesson on Tuesday over Exponents and Prime Factorization. Then on Wednesday and Thursday students will catch up on any work they still owe. Friday we will have a lesson over Order of Operations.
Extensions:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home. Your student is more then welcome to complete it if they need more practice though. I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.
HAM: Classify Real Numbers HW
Honors: Integers, Opposites, Absolute Value HW
Tutoring :
Tuesday 3:40 to 4:30 - Make up quizzes and tests Only (7H & 6H)
Friday 3:40 to 4:30 - help with homework, lessons, or need to catch up on work. (7H & 6H)
Students MUST let me know a week ahead of time if they will stay for tutoring so I can make sure to have the appropriate work available. If I need your student to stay for tutoring, I will reach out.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
This week we will be starting our project called "Mr. Kelly's Airplane Academy". This will be an individual project that the students can work on at home and in school. Parents, if you have any questions about it, don't hesitate to shoot me an email!
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 9/06/2024
This week we continue to work with maps and maps skills! We will be working on locating various countries using latitude and longitude. We will also be practicing using scale and creating tools for maps. We will finish out the week with a Knowledge Check what we have learned so far.
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Chicken Tenders GROUP B Meets this Week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net
-Ms. Stubbins :)
It's week four everyone! Great job and let's keep going forward in to our Fall semester., We will have our assessment when we return this week and pick up where we left off with Typing.com. We will also start with the "nuts and bolts" of classroom technology and our computers in general. Basic knowledge of our every day technology is necessary to understand what we are using and how to begin to "troubleshoot" as we go on. Lots of new things to learn as we move on. Let's have an AWESOME week, Eagles!!!
~Mr. Garcia
This shortened week we should be concluding our image searches, as students scour the web for the best examples to help tell the story of their Favorite Things. Students who need assistance are paired with others able to help. We will review each collection to ensure they are sufficiently high resolution and quality to create a Blu-Ray resolution video and includes alternate images in case we aren't able to use an one (or two) for any reason. Each image must have their individual URL preserved in their Word document. Students who don't have a complete set will receive assistance from other students (via a shared Google doc) who have shown mastery of the Search and Save skill if there is still time. If not, they will receive images that are well-suited to the project even if they are not of one of their favorite things.. Next week we'll begin working on our Title graphics for our video.
