Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. It will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
Next week we are reviewing the different components of the Hydrosphere, Geosphere, Biosphere, and Atmosphere, as well as their role on the planet and their interactions with each other.
Here is an updated grading policy for my class that was shared on 3/17/25:
Extra Copies will be found in the files by my desk. They are organized by week. (it is week 1 for the 4th nine weeks right now)
Missing assignments will be a zero until turned in.
Every Assignment will have 1 week to turn in, after that, it will remain a zero in the gradebook.
You may use an extra copy of an assignment to make up an assignment for up to an 80.
For online assignments, I will offer digital copies.
If you are absent, you still need to turn in your work.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
If your student has missing grades or zeros, encourage them to come to my tutoring for help!
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 05/01/2025
This week we will continue investigating the various forms of government in the world. We will take a look how other countries are run - rule by one, few, or many.
Thursday, May the 1st is our map test over Central Africa. Students can choose to test out over the entire continent if they would like to.
Tutorials times have changed
Tutorial times: Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am) only. They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, tutorials will be by appointment only.
Group D Chicken Tenders meet this week!
Apologies for any confusion last week - got my weeks mixed up:(
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - Time to start earning those hours for 7th grade!!! Remember that as of April 1, 2025 any hours you earn goes towards your 10 hours for next year:) Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Week 34:
This is our last week of April as we move into May. We can now see the finish line! Unbelievable how time flies. Only 4 weeks to go, folks!
More touch typing assignments will continue as finish with our 2 page and then 3 page typing assessment the following week. The final typing assessment for the year will be done without looking at our keyboards. Please continue to practice, practice and practice as we move forward. Touch typing will be a regular thing as you continue through middle school and high school.
We will pick up where we started as we continue with the Chicken Coup PBL and creating our websites for this 6th grade project.
Review assignments over Tech Apps will continue as we move toward the end of the year. Some coding assignments with the Kodu lab will round out our year as well.
Remember our field trip on May 9th is coming up very soon. Let's have a great week!!
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time, or after school in Room 2414. Please make arrangements ahead of time with me.

Lessons are ready and available for students who wish to continue developing "Paint Pot" with many additional features, but some have already finished the required features and have begun working on their own independent projects, receiving guidance and debugging help from me as well as other students.
There are so many new features in MIT App Inventor to explore this year that the pet projects students are working on are literally astounding. From new special effects like animated gradients to sophisticated interactive conversations powered by AI, App Inventor is surfing the cutting edge just as you would expect from a world-renowned technology university like MIT. Can't wait to see what our budding Coders come up with!
