Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. It will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
Next week we are reviewing the geosphere and atmosphere, then moving on to the hydrosphere and biosphere. Students will learn to point out components of each sphere and their role in Earth's delicate systems.
Here is an updated grading policy for my class that was shared on 3/17/25:
Extra Copies will be found in the files by my desk. They are organized by week. (it is week 1 for the 4th nine weeks right now)
Missing assignments will be a zero until turned in.
Every Assignment will have 1 week to turn in, after that, it will remain a zero in the gradebook.
You may use an extra copy of an assignment to make up an assignment for up to an 80.
For online assignments, I will offer digital copies.
If you are absent, you still need to turn in your work.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
If your student has missing grades or zeros, encourage them to come to my tutoring for help!
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 04/25/2025
This week we will be investigating the limited vs. unlimited governments. Thursday, May the 1st is our map test over Central Africa. Students can choose to test out over the entire continent if they would like to.
Tutorials are every Monday after school and every morning unless we have STAAR testing taking place.
No tutorials on these mornings: 4/22 - due to STAAR.
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Group A Chicken Tenders meet this week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - Time to start earning those hours for 7th grade!!! Remember that as of April 1, 2025 any hours you earn goes towards your 10 hours for next year:) Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Week 33:
The countdown continues and we can see the finish line just in our sights. What an exciting year, but there's still things to get done before we end this school year. Here we go!
We will see some independent touch typing assignments come up that will enhance our typing skills and prepare us for the next years in DATA.
We will continue with our storyboarding assignment to finish off our Audio/Video Production section in our Tech Apps curriculum.
Soon we dive into a coding assignment with the Kodu lab.
Don't forget about our field trip on May 9th coming up soon. Let's have a great week!!
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time, lunch time, or possibly after school in Room 2414. Please make arrangements ahead of time with me.

Students should have completed the basic "Paint Pot" program by now as part of their Multi-App, with all of their code accessible via a primary menu. They will now customize their backgrounds and icon with some Photoshop work and develop their About screen further with more detail and links to both their portfolio website and the DATA page on the District website.
Lessons are ready and available for any student who wishes to continue developing "Paint Pot" to include many additional features, but some have already finished the basic requirements and have commenced working on projects they have chosen for themselves, receiving guidance and debugging help from me and other students.
This year we are trying something different by offering students the opportunity to work on group project creating quiz apps. Roles will include Coder, of course, but teams will need additional members gathering information for questions and possible answers, locating and editing images to go with the questions and even graphic designers to create buttons and backgrounds to bring an elegant polished look to the final product. Topics are wide open but I will provide my personal support to any academic projects that could be of real use to teachers and future students!
