This week, we will take a break from our persuasive essays to take our unit 5 test (DEUA) on persuasive / argumentative writing. This grade will count for itself, and also, if if is higher, replace the Unit 5 CFA.
We will then turn back to our essays to work on revising, editing, and concluding strong, We will share them out loud on Thursday.
Continuing this week, we are temporarily banning comic books, manga, and picture-heavy funny fiction from in-class SSR time. This is to help and encourage students build up their reading muscles ahead of April 8th's ELAR STAAR test. This is a great chance for those who have been reading comic books or manga exclusively to find a great paragraphs-only book.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. It will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
Grades will be finalized this week for the 3rd grading period. Delta Math EC has been put in.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
Students will be taking their DEUA for chemistry on Monday, March 3. The topics students should review are:
Density, comparing the densities of different fluids in order to see where they would be on a density column.
Periodic Table, Analyzing a substance's physical properties and categorizing it as Metal, Metalloid, or Nonmetal.
Chemical changes, Students use evidence to determine whether a change was chemical or physical. They should also know the indicators of a chemical reaction.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
If your student has missing grades or zeros, encourage them to come to my tutoring for help!
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 03/07/2025

For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Group D Chicken Tenders meet this week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).

Week 27:
Its unbelievable how quickly our school year is going. Here we are on the last week of the 3rd 9 week grading period. Hold on everyone! We have 12 weeks to go after Spring Break.
We will finish off our audio/video production unit this week and see all three videos we have created and reproduced. This week we will also end our email exercises and everything else to finish off the week prior to our Friday, March 7 early release.
We will finish the week off with a typing assessment before we continue with our 4th 9 week grading period. Have an amazing spring break and get ready to culminate our last 2.5 months left in this academic year.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time, lunch time, or possibly after school in Room 2414. Please make arrangements ahead of time with me.

Students are spread out at many different stages during this last couple of weeks of our unit on 3D Modeling and Animation. Ask your student to show you the 3D Modeling page of their Digital Portfolio to see where they are. For some, the goal of adding a green background to their Blender video so they can composite their model animation with a different background is in reach. The Cycles render engine in Blender is now accessible to us with our updated desktops, so this year is going to produce the highest quality renders we've ever seen! Extended versions may require more than one class period so we'll be keeping a few of these computers running over lunch and overnight. Our first 3D models are coming off the print bed too; our "master" collection of physical models continues to grow ever larger!
