This week, honors classes will be taking a test on The Phantom Tollbooth and GT classes will be taking one on A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Students should still be reading their chosen biography and have access to their book or ebook at school, as we will be having certain SSR days dedicated to biographies only. To end this unit on January 23rd, each student will dress up as the person about whom they have read and present for three minutes, including questions. Instructions for this project (including the alternative version) are on Google Classroom early.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
SCIENCE FAIR THURSDAY!!!
I will be sending out reminders of my expectations for this project, but the main focus is that the students have their tri-fold poster boards completed turned in on WEDNESDAY.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.

Week 20:
It's amazing to me to seee how quickly this school year is moving along. It was only 5 months ago that I began this journey with the DATA 6th graders and here we are in January of 2025. Here we go!
We have started a new unit in audio/video production when it comes to creativity and innovation using different media platforms. Their prior knowledge with Adobe Premiere Pro will help them tremendously along the way of creating short videos and learning some video editing skills and other video recording techniques. As always, we will continue with our typing and keyboarding skills which will help them later throughout their secondary school career. Welcome to the Spring semester!
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements ahead of time with me and your POD teacher.

Now that we've worked our way through several Adobe programs, we're ready to shift gears to focus on a few free and open-source design tools. We'll start by adding the third dimension to our projects, beginning with the free online version of Sketchup. It was originally purchased and then developed by Google for the purpose of empowering users worldwide to be creative in 3D. This modeling software is easy enough to learn quickly but takes a lot of practice to be able to become proficient at building full architectural models.
The paid version of this software is used everywhere by professionals in the industry, and is now maintained by Trimble Inc. We will be creating models we will be animating, with lessons on how to create 3D designs with an eye to printing many of them on our Prusa MK3s+ printer.
