Hope everyone has a great break. Coming back in January, we will continue our in-class reader's theater. Honors classes will be doing The Phantom Tollbooth and GT classes will be doing A Midsummer Night's Dream. No costumes or props needed; just scripts and voices. We will analyze the play after our reading, and there will be a test.
Students should still be reading their chosen biography and have access to their book or ebook at school, as we will be having certain SSR days dedicated to biographies only. To end this unit on January 22nd, each student will dress up as the person about whom they have read and present for three minutes, including questions. Instructions for this project are on Google Classroom early.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
If your student did not turn in a permission for or waiver form, they will stay on campus and go to their regular classes.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 1/10/2025

For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.

ELAR Monster animation by Oliver Heath
Before we officially start our unit on 3D modeling and animation students will be updating their digital portfolios by adding and documenting all of the vector artwork they drew and animated using Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. This includes PNG images with transparent backgrounds, animated GIFs and full-resolution video versions of their ELAR Monsters. We have a field trip this week so we'll dig into Sketchup and our first modeling project "Simple House" next week!
