This week's main focus is our in-class reader's theater. Honors classes will be doing The Phantom Tollbooth and GT classes will be doing A Midsummer Night's Dream. No costumes or props needed; just scripts and voices.
Students should still be reading their chosen biography and have access to their book or ebook at school, as we will be having certain SSR days dedicated to biographies only. To end this unit on January 22nd, each student will dress up as the person about whom they have read and present for three minutes, including questions.
No homework this week, but classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
FIELD TRIP Permission forms and Waiver forms are DUE DECEMBER 16th. If students do not have the forms, they will stay on campus instead of going on the field trip.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
Next week we wrap up and test over the Energy, Force, and Motion Unit. It was a large unit so make sure your kids are studying hard! I have a gimkit available on Google Classroom, and we will be reviewing on Monday for the test on Tuesday.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 12/20/2024

Have a wonderful break!
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Group D Chicken Tenders meet this week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Week 18:
We have made it to the end of our 2nd 9 weeks and our first semester. We will have our first semester assessment and finish up any late work before we wrap it all up and leave for our much deserved Winter break.
We will pick up with our typing/keyboarding skills when we return in January. Please practice on your own if and when you can. Typing.com is available even during the break. Another good online site to visit is typingclub.com. We will continue as well with other new Google Workspace apps that we may not be familiar with and work on learning the apps we use on a daily basis now and that may be used throughout the rest of our public education years.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
Have a safe and happy holiday!! See you in 2025!!

Animating our Monsters to wag, wave and wiggle in After Effects is the order of the day, as students apply their knowledge of layers and keyframes to the different parts of their monster. Students will be learning some of the powerful effects and simulations that this program is capable of and employing their favorites. From fractal noise animated backgrounds to wave warp and particle canons, there are menus within menus full of fun and fantastic tools we'll try out as we spend some time taking our Monster animations into new dimensions.
