This week, we will practice sentence variety in our writing, including compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
We will solve the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure on Monday and Tuesday, November 18th and 19th.
Finally, I would like each 6th grader to think about a real life person about whom he or she might like to know more.Parents, if you have someone you could recommend for you child to read about, that would also be helpful. There are biographies in our future.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
Monday will be a work day for students to catch up from Friday's lesson. Tuesday will be a lesson over Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD). Wednesday is a modified schedule due to the Veteran's Day Assembly. We will use this day as a work day. Thursday will be a modified schedule for the DATA Excellence Day. This day is used to allow students an intervention/extension time during school. Friday will be a lesson over Random Samples.
Honors
Monday students will take a CFA over Unit 3. Tuesday students will have a lesson over Debit vs Credit. Wednesday students will have a Veteran's Day Assembly with a modified schedule. This day students can use as a cath up day and to retake their CFA if needed. Thursday is another day with a modified schedule for their DATA Excellence Day. We will use this day to have students make up missing/late work or complete extension activities. Friday will be a lesson over Credit Scores/History.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
Starting this week, Delta Math Extensions will not have access to videos for the questions I assign. There will be some other features students will lose access to as the free version is very limite. However, I will still be using it as a option for extension practice.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Delta Math has been suspended until November 22nd. Students will not have the ability to access their Delta Math classroom until November 22nd.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We are jumping into the FORCES section of this unit. We will be going over normal forces, gravity, friction, magnetism, and the appropriate vocabulary for these topics.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am, as well as lunch tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.

For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Group D Chicken Tenders meet this week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.

Week 14:
We'll "adjust and modify" as we move forward with our Google Apps Unit. I have heard your concerns and we will make some changes so that you get a full understanding on how to use these Google Apps in our day to day lives at school and home. Your prior knowledge with some of these apps have really helped you get even better.
Remember, always check your Google Classroom for assignments and other updates as we go through this month and next towards the end of our first semester.
More Typing.com to continue our keyboarding skills and make them even better as the school year progresses. Please get used to working off your home row keys and using it more often as your typing skills will be challenged to make you a stronger student with this skill. You'll thank me later.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
See you all on Monday!

Before we start on the ELAR monster project, we will get an introduction to Adobe After Effects and learn the basics of animating Illustrator drawings. We'll use Emoji layers and the puppet pin tool to keyframe some movement of elements from their drawing, such as arching eyebrow or changing a smile into a frown. It's a complex program and we have big plans for our monsters, so starting with a much simpler drawing will help us plan and execute the tracing of our monsters to improve the final animation.
