This week, we will take a unit test on informational writing, including revising and editing. We will practice sentence variety, including compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
We will start preparing for the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure.
Finally, I would like ach 6th grader to think about a real life person about whom he or she might like to know more.
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
Monday students will have an Edpuzzle over Scatter plots and their associations. Wednesday students will explore making predictions with trend lines in Scatter Plots. Thursday, students will use the trend line equations to make predictions when it is difficult to estimate the predictions. Friday, students will use this day to catch up on any assignments from th week they need to complete.
Honors
Monday is an early release day and I will have kids catch up on their assignment from Friday. Wednesday and Thursday, students will have a lesson over Percent Proportions. Friday students will have a CFA over ratios and rates.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
Starting this week, Delta Math Extensions will not have access to videos for the questions I assign. There will be some other features stuents will lose access to as the free version is very limite. However, I will still be using it as a option for extension practice.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.

Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We will be having a TEST on Energy Tuesday. The topics will be Potential vs. Kinetic Energy, Energy Transformations/Transfers, and lastly, Longitudinal and Transverse Waves.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 11/08/2024
This week we will be exploring various religions and belief systems as we continue our study of culture throughout the world. We will be having a map test over the Southeast States of America on Nov. 11th. Please have your student share the Seterra link with you!
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Group C Chicken Tenders meet this week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Week 13:
Hello, November!
As we get closer to the end of our calendar year (2024) and enter the beginnings of our "holiday" season, we will continue on our Tech Apps trip using our Google Apps. Some of you are already familiar with them and have some amazing prior knowledge that can help you with the projects that are being created for you to get more practice using these apps. Remember, we are using the Google Apps mentioned in our Google Classroom to culminate our Esports Proposal Project next month.
Remember, always check your Google Classroom for assignments and other updates as we go through this month and next towards the end of our first semester.
More Typing.com to continue our keyboarding skills and make them even better as the school year progresses. Please get used to working off your home row keys and using it more often as your typing skills will be challenged to make you a stronger student with this skill. You'll thank me later.
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
See you all on Monday!

Now that students have gotten taste of what Illustrator is capable of, we unleash their creative energy to design a set of Emojis. They can invent their own or recreate some of their favorites, starting by resizing and repositioning the circles from Sample Graphic to make the face and eyes of an emoji template. Students then add features such as a mouth, nose, ears, hair, etc. that can be mixed and matched to create vector characters that represent clearly recognizable emotions. Careful arrangement of the layers during the construction of their emoji's is paramount, and not just because modifications are more feasible if the design stays organized. The animation techniques we are planning require it. For example, it's impossible to arch eyebrows if they are not separate from the face!
