This week, we will learn about compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. We will also work on summarizing and annotating skills.
Coming soon: the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure!
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
Monday and Tuesday students will review for their Unit test over Slope. Wednesday student will take the unit test. Thursday, I will be out and students will have a short activity to go that will help them practice skills over slope. Friday, students who need to retake the unit test will have a chance to. Students who did not need to retake the test can use the time to get caught up on Delta Math or other assignments they still have not turned in yet.
Honors
Students will continue to work on proportional reasoning and solving problems using proportions. Tuesday and Wednesday students will work on converting measurement units. Thursday students will have a short activity that helps go over measurement conversion. Friday, students will have a lesson over checking accounts.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home. Your student is more then welcome to complete it at home if they need more practice though.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We continue our talk on energy, but focused primarily on waves, and how energy is transformed and transferred through a system.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Comic book club will meet on Fridays from 3:45 - 4:30, if your student has not given you a permission slip to sign, they may not participate until that is done. Similarly, they need to be passing all courses to be able to attend.
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 11/01/2024
This week we will be finishing up with Human Environment Interaction Unit 2. We will be having a map test over the Northeast States of America on Nov. 1st. Please have your student share the Seterra link with you!
Tutorial times: Students who are in need of finishing up or have a quick question about an assignment can come in Mon - Fri during homeroom PODS (7:45-8:15 am). They will need to check in with their homeroom teacher first before coming to my room.
For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Group BChicken Tenders will be held on Tues. the 29th this week rather than Thurs. the 31st. Unfortunately, I have a drs. appt on that Thursday. Group A members are welcomed to join me on Tuesday the 29th if you can make it.
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or are in need of anything! You can reach me on Remind or email: bdavil@neisd.net

Week 12:
It's Halloween week! I hope you're finishing up your Texas Folklore Story Project. We will share out our projects possibly campus wide right in time for our ghostly holiday. Always check your Google Classroom for assignments and other updates as we go through the month of November.
We will continue our look at Google Apps. In particular, we will check out our Google Drive and see how it works hand-in-hand with other Google apps like Google Docs. It's a Google world out there and we want to prepare you for 7th and 8th grade and well into your high school career by preparing you for those awesome technology courses you will be utilizing in the future.
Also, plan on getting back into Typing.com to continue our keyboarding skills and make them even better as the school year progresses. Good things are coming out of this 6th grade group! I'm looking forward on finishing this first semester on a strong note. Let's go!!
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
See you all on Monday!

We kick off our next project this week by shifting gears and introducing a program used to design "vector" artwork called Adobe Illustrator. Vector graphics differ greatly from bitmap graphics such as the digital pictures we take with our phones. As soon as we begin enlarging a photograph the quality of the image begins degrading. Vector artwork can be re-scaled to any size without a loss in quality whatsoever, since the information used to create the graphic is stored as formulas that are continually redrawn. We will begin by creating a simple sample graphic that like looks something like a target, then transform our four concentric circles into our very first emoji!
