This week, we will Work on writing complete, correct sentences and avoiding fragments and run-ons. We will also work on summarizing skills.
Coming soon: the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure!
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
This week students will learn how to write the slope intercept form from real world scenarios. Students will then determine what is proportional or non-proportional when given examples. Thursday students will learn what direct variation is and how it is used in the real world. Friday, students will take a quick CFA to see what they have learned so far on slope. If they do not pass the CFA, they can retake the CFA Monday of the following week.
Honors
This week students will start Unit 3. This unit is a very important unit and will help them set up for their next year math class. This week students will explore how to find and write ratios, ratio tables, and unit rates.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home. Your student is more then welcome to complete it at home if they need more practice though.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.
HAM: Slope and Rate of Change HW
Honors: Divide Fractions HW

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We continue our talk on energy, specifically about energy transfer and how energy flows through systems. The main topics this week will be Elastic PE and Thermal PE. We will then move on to Kinetic energies.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.

For students needing more guidance or remediation, I am available Mondays after school from 3:40-4:30 pm by appointment.
Chicken Tenders will be held on Tues. the 29th this week rather than Thurs. the 31st. Unfortunately, I have a drs. appt on that Thursday. Group A members are welcomed to join me on Tuesday the 29th if you can make it.

This week we are finishing up our Premiere video by adding Captions on top of the animated images and Credits at the end that tell our viewers where the images came from. This involves using the text tool to create internal assets that we control with Premiere rather than using a separate program like we did with our Photoshop Titles. Our dependence on spell checkers and the lack of one in Premiere means our best results come from writing in a Google Doc and then copying and pasting the short phrases into existing text assets. Students have been provided two templates they can use to ensure maximum legibility - one is black text with a white glow around the letters and the other is white text with a black glow. This combination makes it so that viewers can quickly read the words on top of moving images, which are the true star of the show.
