This week, we will continue with Grammar Keepers and taking a district unit test on story elements (as applied to a particular passage). We will also learn to avoid sentence fragments and run-on sentences in our writing, and make sparks like Brian does in Hatchet.
Starting this week, I can sign books out from my classroom library for students to borrow. Chapter books only (no comics or picture books). Students who sign books out should hand them directly to me too return them, and I ill sign them back in.
Coming in a few weeks: the Hatchet Escape Room Adventure!
Homework for ELAR is once per week, assigned on Mondays, and due on Fridays. Through January, it will be found on BrainPOP. Classwork not finished in class can usually be taken home to finish for homework as well.
I have classroom assignments represented on Google Classroom, even if they are pencil and paper assignments. This should be the first stop for any student who misses a day of class.
Each student should be reading a self-chosen book for at least 200 minutes per week. 45-60 of these minutes will happen in class each week, but the other 150+ should happen at home, hopefully spread out over the week in 20-30 minute (or more) chunks.
The best way to contact me is through email but I am also on our 6th Grade Remind. rwayme@neisd.net
HAM
This week students will explore how to find slope from a table using the slope formula. They will then be able to put that into slope intercept form. Students will end the week intercepting slope intercept form from real world scenarios.
Honors
This week students will study for the end of the unit exam. Thursday students will take the end of the unit exam. Friday students who were absent or students who did not apss the test on Thursday, will retake it or complete it. Any students who did not pass the test by Friday, will have to come in next Friday to retake it with assistance.
Extensions/Extra Credit:
When students are done with their current work, they will access their extension work on Google Classroom. The program is called Delta Math. There will be assignments for each skill or lesson we do in class. The students ARE NOT expected to complete them at home. Your student is more then welcome to complete it at home if they need more practice though.
I will use their progress to help boost their grades at the end of the grading period.
Homework
Homework is usually given out Monday and it's due Friday. If there is a short week, I will adjust the deadline.
HAM: Functions Maze HW
Honors: Convert Mixed and Improper Fractions HW

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE SCIENCE!
Hello!
We are going to have a quiz on last weeks Energy topics: What is energy, what is it used for? What are some different types of energy?
We continue our talk on energy, specifically about energy transfer and how energy flows through systems.
We are going to maintain our routines and procedures!
Journals are the best way for a student to study for quizzes and tests, which they will have ample time to do in-class.
If a student was absent and has a missing grade, there is a file basket in my room with the week's notes and activities. If they fill in what they missed, I will upload it to the gradebook.
I have Tutoring on Monday and Wednesday morning, from 7:45am - 8:15am!
Remember: You can reach me via email ( jkelly3@neisd.net ) if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Week Ending 10/18/2024

Chicken Tenders GROUP D Meets this Week!
Chicken/Garden Club Thurs. 3:40-4:30 pm. Club will be cancelled on Thursdays that we have early dismissal or bad weather(rain).
Service Hours - due March 31, 2025. 6th graders need to earn 5 hours before that time. Students will need to log their hours in Skyward. Skyward is a great online tool to track hours so that family sees totals from home too.

Week 10:
We made it to week 10!
Here we go with our next 9 week cycle which will take us all the way before Christmas break.
We will continue our long term project regarding Esports for middle school. This is a "work in progress" that will probably be a real proposal for your 7th grade year at DATA. Right now, this is just a working idea that needs a lot of work to inform ourselves with first. Follow the process and we will see how your hard work can become reality.
As mentioned before, we will dive into Google Suite. Many of you have a general understanding of the apps that Google offers, but you might surprise yourself at some other things that it lends itself to our educational advantage. We will keep practicing on our typing skills. You are all getting better. Let's keep up the great work!
Tutoring appointments can be made ahead of time if you need the extra help. Just plan to meet any morning during POD time in Room 2414. Please make arrangements with me and your POD teacher.
Enjoy your extended weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday, October 15!

Everything we've done so far could be replicated fairly easily with software like PowerPoint or online tools such as Google Slides. Now we get to the real reason that makes Adobe Premiere the top choice of video professionals the world over - control. We begin with the basic underlying concept for all animation: Keyframes. We will instruct Premiere in exactly how to change the scale and position of our images during the 5 seconds each one is on screen, and in doing so tell a mini story about each particular "favorite thing". We'll learn how to add Transitions that will automate the changing of one image to the next. Students can even re-construct our Titles using their original Photoshop layers so that they can in turn be animated with keyframes and transitions. We have an incredibly talented group of students this year and I can't wait for you to see what they've been cooking up!
