Starting this school year, I was allowed to borrow a school-owned camera, which I debuted at some football games just as our team was hitting the playoffs. Now that those are over, I bring it to sports, music events, and whatever happens at school. It's occasionally been an uphill battle to fight with ISO and Shutter Speeds to get a decent result, but usually, I can get it.
One Single Point Dashes Rocket Football's Playoff Hopes (neenahsatellite.com)
Neenah was moments away from beating Kimberly until a surprise touchdown tied the game with 2 minutes to go. And once the opposing side's field goal landed between the posts, Neenah's entire path to victory came crashing down. Such a dramatic end to their season brought many players to tears. I enjoy this photograph because it demonstrates that underneath the bulky padding and muscles, one still finds emotional human beings that require each other for support.
Helping Hands Art and Craft Fair 2022 Nets Second Largest Profit (neenahsatellite.com)
This annual event regularly draws in hundreds of community businesses and thousands of shoppers. Despite a concurrent illness (perhaps instigated by stepping in a puddle at the football game), I chose to volunteer at the event and this allowed me to witness the significant diversity of items for sale, which made for excellent photo material.
Rockets Basketball Closes Out O.J. Gym's 67-Year-History With 20-Point Win (neenahsatellite.com)
Neenah is building a new high school and rearranging its grade levels so that our rusty, 95-year-old Shattuck Middle School can finally be laid to rest. The high school fieldhouse being busy resulted in this particular basketball game being played at Shattuck, giving its gymnasium one last moment of glory before being shut down forever. I couldn't resist the chance to photograph such a historically significant event!
At our last band concert, our band director made a very loud joke about the Bass Clarinet being the "most neglected instrument" of the group. Yet nevertheless, when it came time for his solo, the Bass Clarinet player in the group triumphantly stood and played with precise accuracy, earning audience praise for an instrument otherwise tricky to hear. This created an excellent opportunity for a close-up image, which caught my eye when reviewing my gallery in part due to its portrayal of true concert bravery. I even received multiple compliments for my decision to photograph this one moment.
