Guidelines for Selecting the Most Appropriate Language Pace
World Language students are encouraged to select their learning pace (College Preparatory, Honors or Accelerated) based on the pace of instruction that best aligns with their language learning needs and academic goals.
College Preparatory (Spanish Levels 1-4, and French 2)
College Preparatory World Language courses are designed with a balanced pace, emphasizing in-class practice with core language structures and high-frequency vocabulary. Students receive substantial guided practice within the classroom. Consistent skill practice outside of class reinforces lesson objectives and fosters structured application of the language.
Honors (All languages)
Honors World Language courses are taught at a moderate pace, requiring a moderate level of independent study outside of class. Instruction emphasizes core language structures and high-frequency vocabulary, with some enrichment vocabulary integrated. Students are expected to practice skills consistently outside of class to reinforce learning and apply language concepts effectively.
Accelerated (All languages)
Accelerated World Language courses are taught at a demanding pace and typically require regular independent study outside of class. Instruction integrates complex language structures and extensive vocabulary with limited in-class guided practice and limited repetition. Accelerated courses provide excellent preparation for the Advanced Placement course. Independent skill practice outside of class primarily focuses on student application and integration of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
