Writing

Units of writing include narratives, literary essay, and research-based arguments. In fifth-grade writing, we will be:

• Using the writing process including drafting, revising, editing, and publishing

• Using graphic organizer, brain frames, and elaborated paragraph templates to plan and organize our writing

• Selecting appropriate genres for different writing purposes

• Considering audience and purpose for writing

• Using conventional spelling

• Using mentor texts to learn crafting techniques

• Writing with voice

• Using research skills to support informational writing

• Writing personal narratives, short stories, poetry, persuasive pieces, and nonfiction pieces
