Looking at the data, one will see that a peer tutoring support program is successful. For many of the students in Bobcat Bootcamp, they thrive on relationships especially with their peers. With the help of the National Junior Honor Society students, the Bootcamp has become a place where students can ask for help in a safe, supportive learning environment. Having positive peer relationships is vital to one's well-being and ultimately academic success.
Student leaders use the circle format as a reflection tool. They start with a fun and low key question like Pepsi or Sprite and then move into a more focused question such as greatest success or challenge of the marking period. By having students lead this discussion, it becomes about community and support.
Students periodically complete reflection sheets where they are asked to think about the strategies that are available and which ones have been helpful to them.
Students use a student planner to check grades, write reminders, and prioritize assignments based on due date, skills, and importance. We use this organizer to breakdown larger assignments into more manageable parts.
Sleep, nutrition, exercise, healthy relationships--these interventions can heal and promote strong student success. Many students in our program do not have a plan for how they spend their evenings, so they get caught up playing video games or scroll social media. We teach students to be intentional about their time by using a chart.
