ABOUT ME:
I am fascinated by culture and how our setting and upbringing influences our beliefs, experiences, and values, which is why I chose to pursue a degree in English Education. My passion for literacy stems from understanding just how complex and nuanced humans are, and how literature can be an entry point into better understanding our world and what it means to be human. I love the concept of using literature as "windows" and "mirrors" which was originally coined by Emily Style at the National SEED project. This is not a new concept nor is it mine, but it is one that speaks to me. Literacy matters.
I have spent the past seventeen years teaching middle school ELA. I have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and an Educational Leadership degree. As Student Support Specialist, my work is centered around support, belonging, and growth with my primary goal being to support teachers in supporting students. This website includes previous reflections of mine as an ELA teacher in addition to new reflections from my current role.
