Core words are the most frequently spoken words by children and adults. Core words make up 80% of the mesages we speak every day.
Core words are flexible and can be used in a variety of ways in a variety of situations

Fringe vocabulary are specific words such as nouns. Each child may have their own important fringe words that are necessary for them to be effective communicators.
Fringe words may be specific toys, foods, or places to go.
