GROWTH PROGRAM
GROWTH PROGRAM
PERSONAL GROWTH SESSIONS
The program conceptualized was based on the premise that the first year of stay in college could be an exciting one for some but it could be a frightening and embarrassing experience for others. The transition from high school to college requires some form of adjustment particularly in decision-making, career choices, study work habits, and other tasks that the individual experience when they were still in high school. The second reason why the program was conceptualized is, it will help students obtain a deep sense of belonging as well as ownership of the dedication of their alma mater. Letting a student go through the process of understanding life and making Marist values as both his/her educational and personal life could be attained by a Notre Damean by heart and spirit.
STEP UP Program
The STEP UP: A Program for Working Students is a guidance program aimed at providing emotional support specifically designed for working students who are simultaneously balancing work responsibilities with their academic pursuits. The theme of this program, “Rising to the challenge, one STEP at a time”, serves as a guiding light for the STEP UP Program for Working Students, reflecting its commitment of empowering working students to overcome their challenges by taking gradual steps toward their goals.
The program was based on the premise that working students often experience higher levels of stress and burnout due to the demands of both work and academics. In which balancing work and education can take a toll on mental health. The Office of Guidance and Counseling Services believes that a student's emotional well-being is closely linked to academic performance. When students are emotionally supported, they are better equipped to focus on their studies and perform well in their classes and work.
The program was also conceptualized to ensure that working students, who may face additional challenges, have equal access to the emotional support they need to thrive in their educational journey. When a campus prioritizes the emotional well-being of its students, it creates a more positive and supportive environment for all, contributing to a healthier and happier Marist community.
The STEP UP Program for Working Students emphasized the role of peer support and empathy in emotional well-being. Through focus group discussion, it will give the working students a platform to share their unique challenges, needs, and experiences. It creates opportunities for working students to connect with their peers who may be facing similar challenges, thus can be a valuable source of emotional support and encouragement they need.
This program aims to assist students in understanding their present problems. Specifically, it helps them to:
Explore and gain a deeper understanding of their emotions, motivations, and perceptions;
Identify current issues or concerns which affect their behaviors or attitudes; and
Enumerate ways in coping up with these issues or concerns.
