Storytelling enables visualization to convey information in a more effective way. Visualization has also been widely adopted by sports media leaders to facilitate data consumption and engage audiences. However, it is not clear that the design of these visual inter- faces actually meet the needs of the variety of stakeholders. We argue that more than ever, consumers of sports data are not simply using the data for their own understanding but to also construct stories and commentary around the sporting event.
In this project, we focus on various stakeholders in sports domain. In particular, sportswriters construct game stories using statistical information; fans share their viewpoints based on the real-time stats while watching the game. We explore how different sports stakeholders construct data-driven sports stories and how to support data-driven game story creation for them.
