Eileen Hunt and Serena Vantin chatting about Wollstonecraft and Beccaria at the Notre Dame bookstore, 27 May 2025.
We are thrilled that Professor Serena Vantin of the Philosophy Faculty at the University of Bologna is visiting Notre Dame for two weeks as part of the History of Philosophy Forum's program for hosting scholars who wish to conduct research at our world-renowned Hesburgh Library and its Rare Books and Special Collections division. Vantin is working on two projects while at Notre Dame: a paper on Wollstonecraft's reception of the 18th-c. Italian jurist and political theorist Beccaria, and the first complete Italian scholarly edition of Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. Vantin will meet with Professor Eileen Hunt, project director for the Notre Dame-SUNY NEH Scholarly Editions project on Wollstonecraft's Vindications, several times during her visit to talk about their common research interests and also future collaborative projects including a 2027 conference to be held at Notre Dame on "Wollstonecraft, Democracy, and Human Rights", sponsored by Notre Dame's Democracy Initiative and hosted by our NEH Scholarly Editions team.
