Drone Response is designed to support the rapid deployment of multiple small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) for emergency response missions. There are many factors to consider when deploying multiple drones on diverse missions, especially for rapid response situations across a wide variety of environments. Students joining this project will contribute towards developing our Drone Response project, the infrastructure of a multi-drone control and its management environment. During the summer students will have the following opportunities:
Develop advanced Python skills working on our drone air-leasing services.
Develop interactive GUI views using Angular to integrate air-leasing views into our front end application.
Participate in field-tests with our drones.
Dr Jane Cleland-Huang is the lead researcher on the Drone Response project — a system for managing and monitoring the flights of semi-autonomous small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). As part of this project, she is involved in Smart and Connected Communities (SCC) research and is working closely with the South Bend Fire Department to co-design a system in which sUAS serve as full-mission partners for emergency response scenarios.
