With the goal of encouraging our students through experience, prominent speakers from the CSE field were scheduled to give a short seminar. Additionally, working towards their successful career development, we organized workshops addressing poster presentations and resume building abilities.
How does a CSE career in industry looks like?
Tori Huang is a software developer at Gusto, a company that serves more than 300,000 businesses nationwide. She works with entrepreneurial businesses to transform ideas into web and mobile apps. She works closely with designers, project managers, and costumers to rapidly build solutions based on customer requirements. She will be joining us to share her path towards a job in industry, future trends that she foresees and tips that could help a CSE student today, to better prepare for the future.
How is a CSE career shaped towards becoming a researcher in industry?
Dr Martez Mott is passionate about improving diversity in the CS and HCI communities. He is a Senior Researcher in the Ability Group at Microsoft Research, where he conducts research in the areas of human-computer interaction (HCI) and accessible computing, currently exploring methods for improving the accessibility of virtual and augmented reality systems for people with limited mobility.
From the perspective of a hands-on engineering expert, what could the future need from a CSE engineer?
Dr Chris Roberts is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), with invaluable experience in robotics field operations, including DARPA and NASA projects. Current applications of his work include sensors for robotics, environmental monitoring, biomedical diagnostics, and wireless communications.
From the perspective of a succesful entrepreneur, what makes a CSE engineer outstand in industry?
A.J. Altman is a Notre Dame alumnus and a successful entrepreneur, founder and CEO of HOVER Inc. He will be joining us to share his experiences and his vision on how could a CSE student better prepare for the future.
How can a CSE engineer break into the industry research job market?
Dr Vítor Albiero is a Research Scientist at Meta working with Responsible AI and LLMs. He received his PhD from the University of Notre Dame, focusing on face recognition, where the main goal was to understand and improve the accuracy across different demographic groups in deep learning methods. Overall, his research topics include responsible AI, computer vision, machine learning and biometrics.
Workshop: How to build an engaging research poster?
Johanna Olesk is a PhD student in the EPOCH lab advised by Dr. Karla Badillo-Urquiola, at the University of Notre Dame, with a BSc in Bioengineering and Robotics from the University of Tartu and a MSc in Bioengineering from the University of Notre Dame. Her current research entangles human-computer interaction of foster youth, in particular the online risks they encounter as a high-risk population and ways to design interventions to keep them safe online.

Ryan Kristofek is a Graduate Career Consultant for the College of Science of the University of Notre Dame. Ryan graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a degree in Pastoral Ministry and Interpersonal Communication and holds a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Development from Taylor University.
