Every year, the Wolfpack Round Up is the final exam for students enrolled in the Livestock Merchandising class, ANS 240. Over the course of the semester students hear from livestock producers, professional auctioneers, marketing professionals, and other professionals working in the livestock industry. The students learn how to prepare their animal for sale as well as market their animal and the sale to the public. The culmination of their learning is the Wolfpack Round Up sale which is entirely student run.
The students are responsible for creating advertisements, collecting information for the catalogue, and working directly with prospective buyers. Many of the students who participate in the class may have never worked with livestock before, and through this class they are able to have hands on experience under the guidance of the Animal Education Unit Managers. At the end of the semester, students have the tools they need to step out past the realm of school and market a product. Public Speaking, presentation, and promoting are examples of the skills students take away from the class.
